Yes - tax credits are not dependent on previous NI contributions so should be no problem. Be aware that although an interim award is made based on previous year's earnings, the actual award will only be finalised after the year end when actual earnings are known. You could then owe a repayment, so make sure you keep the Revenue up to date on your circumstances!

There is no harm in trying. You can go onto the website and put in a claim or give them a call they can help advise.

Good luck.

Unless your partner earns a lot of money you can still claim

Make a claim, if there is anything wrong with the claim they will contact you to let you know.

I would suggest maybe sitting with someone at the citizens advice bureau or job centre to help you out with the forms as I have been told they are quite long winded and complicated.

theres no reason why you shouldn't claim it and if your partner has been self employed for less than a year you def. qualify because it goes on the previous 12 months earnings. Call citizens advice or type in childs tax credit in the google search and you can fill in the form on-line, they are usually quick to reply. What have you got to lose apart from a little time.
