Im not sure which was round you are asking this question.
40% of £500,000 = £200,000
40% of £200,000 = £80,000.

40/100 of X = 200000
so
X = 200000 multiplied by 100/40
Therefore,

How ever to answer your question ( and assuming you have inherited over 500 000)
40% of 200 000 is .4 * 200 000 = 80 000 |
