Basic if you are married you will claim 1 if you have no dependant. If you have kids but want more money taken out of your taxes... still only claim one. |

If you want to make the most back at return time.. then claim zero. Also, if you are married, file married filing jointly when you file your tax return. A married couple pays less taxes than a single person.. or married filing separately. You can still get a refund for your children you claim on your tax return also.. regardless if you claim dependants throughout the tax year or not. Hope this helps. |

Why give your money to the IRS for the year? It is better to get the money and put it into a 401k or IRA to save for retirement. In general you claim 1 for each person you support including yourself. If you claim 0 they take out the most amount of money. You can claim 0 and ask them to take out a set extra amount. Your HR department will help you. |

I am Married with 2 kids. My husband and I both do "Married, witholding at a higher single rate. With 0 dependents", so at Tax time we get a nice return, that we use for a Family Vacation every year. Most people don't like to do that because they think we are giving the government extra money, but all they do is invest it and hopefully it goes towards our kids education all year long. We get the same money wether it's throughout the year or all at the end. |

I don't know of a website, but the fewer exemptions you claim, the more your employer withholds. That wll give you a bigger refund next year. While I understand why people do this, it is still beyond me why anyone would give the government a yearlong interest free loan!
In short, YOU = 1, YOUR HUBBY =2, YOUR CHILDREN = 3,4,5. You may claim whatever your numbers add up to at the end of the taxyear on your 1040 form. If both you and your signifficant other work, make sure that the combined numbers on both of your W-4s don't exceed the number you may claim on your tax form.
There are good tax prep programs out there that will propmpt you through the forms, find the forms, fill in the numbers and print them for you, all you need to do is pay the damages. H&R Block and others charge a fee, but they will pay penalties and such if they screw up, as well as accompany you through an audit if there is one. Also they usually offer refund anticipation loans and those come with ridiculous interest charges. After all, remember, they are loans and the refunds usually come in a few short weeks anyway. |

Keep ini mind that you dont want to big of a refund as that means that the US Gov has had your money to play with all year. You are better off getting 4-500 back or having to pay a couple hundred as then you can invest that money or do what ever you are going to do with the money.
