As many as the money legally allows.

Court garnishments (taxes, child support, spousal support) take precidence over debt garnishments.

There are very specific legal regulations that companies must follow when figuring out garnishments.

Here is an overview of how they work and what specific laws apply:

There's not a limit of how many, although there is usually a limit on the total % or amount that can be taken

carmelfox00
yes from diffrent companies

More than one can be taken. I think there's a limit to how much of your total paycheck can be taken between multiple garnishments. I think they have to leave one-third or they can only take one-third. It depends on what state you live in, too. Anyway, another concern would be your employer terminating you over this because it may look to them like you're not handling your personal business. Check the laws for your state with something like "wage garnishments - state of Georgia" on Yahoo search.

It is according to the state law in the state you live in. In VA it is according to your salary. I suggest you see if there is a Legal Aid in your area they should know the answer to that question for your state. If you don't have one Call any lawyers office that gives you free consolations.

JP5
Yes, but you are limited by total percentage. This can vary between states, but is generally limited to 25% total garnishment. There are some formulas involved, you can get forms at fms.treas.gov if interested.

However, there is no "numerical limit"

Mark C
Yep...until a court determines that there can be no more taken and allow you to survive

Nature Mother
I imagine as many as are legally issued.
It would be up to you to find a lawyer and go in front of a judge to get the orders modified.

Beach Girl
Any company or child support or state or federal tax or lawsuit can garnish wages from your pay (all separately) until you have $0. I would suggest paying your bills in a timely manner with affordable payment plans, so this doesn't happen.
