phat_h_ly | Hi there! if i have a new baby on Jan-10-2007.Could I claim a baby on my income tax return for year of 2006? |

No, it would need to be born by December 31st to claim it for '06. My mom was born on Dec. 31, because her parents got labor induced so they could take the write off. She's still moderately bitter about it, so I wouldn't recommend that as an option unless you really need the deduction! |

No. Your new child can't be claimed until your 2007 taxes are filed in 2008. Sorry. |

UNfortunately no, but if it was born on Dec 31st you could I'm pretty sure. |

It's true that you will have to wait until next year to claim the baby; however, since it's only 11 days, you might ask your doctor if you can induce. You might want to start inducing on the 30th, though since sometimes it can take longer than 24 hours. My sister-in-law took 36 hours. BTW, you don't have to tell the baby it was induced for the tax write off. That's just a little something to keep to yourself. If you have to tell it anything, just say you couldn't wait to meet it.
Congratulations!

I don't think so. The baby would have to be born in 2006. |

Not that I know of. In some countries, I think you may be able to claim on the expenses incurred in 2006 though. Have a Merry Christmas! |

No, but you could induce to give birth on Dec 31st, and then it counts. |
