Go to the IRS web site they have a with holding calculator that will tell you exactly how many you can claim and still not owe at the end of the year

You don't claim "deductions" on Form W-4. You claim withholding allowances. Just follow the instructions on the form and you'll have the right number for just about perfect break-even situation. Do this together with your spouse. The number you come up with the the total that you can claim between the 2 of you. If your incomes are similar you can split them. However if one makes more than the other by more than about 10% the one with the higher income should claim all of them and the other should claim 0.

It depends on how many your spouse claims. You should have a combined total of 3 dependents.

You could probably claim 3 and be fine, given that you have a lot of deductions like a mortgage, property taxes and child care, etc. You won't get as big a refund next year, but this way, the money goes into your pocket, not to the government.

Claim Married with no dependents on your W4, and when you file your taxes, claim Married with 3 exemptions. You will end up getting almost all of it back. Been doing it for 20 years!

I can't say for sure.

But it will be a decent amont as you can use your child, and your student loans.
