The New "Dolemite" | How are folks making minimum wage ($5.85/ hr.) suppose to afford the $3.87 a gallon gas price at the pumps? |
Before long, an hour of work will pay for only one gallon of gas if you work at minimum wage! |

The difficult answer is: you adjust where buying gas fits into your priorities, or work more. Gas prices are influenced by MANY factors including, the supply from oil producing nations, taxes, refinery costs, marketing and distribution costs, and finally, the consumer market. Prices will go up to the point where consumers are no longer willing to pay for it. Maybe this is $5/gal, maybe it's $10/gal. For the many making minimum wage, you have very hard choices. Are there adjustments in your household budget to be made in order to allocate funds to buying gas? How about dropping cable TV, or not making leisure purchases, adjusting your eating budget...if your budget is already trimmed to the bare minimum, then the harsh reality is: If you cant afford gas, then you cant afford gas. Bus, bike, or walk to destinations? Get a roommate to share living expenses? |

Just like a baby taking his 1st steps, 1 step at a time, so that's how we have to take life as it is, 1 day at a time. It's hard, but we just have to deal with it. |

The price of fuel has very little to do with what minimal workers can afford. Just after I met my bride, in 1976, min wage was $2.75 and I walked to work until I could afford to drive. Gas was .50per gal. then. So you can do what 6000 years of recorded history says people did, and get to work the best you can.
Then improve your value until you make enough to drive! |

Find a way to make it affordable. Use less gas, don't go to restaurants for meals, etc. Basically, you need to cut your spending in other areas to afford gas. |

I suppose when you make that much you would be very good on living on very little. |

isn't minimum wage 6 something an hour now? I dont know how they are supposed to afford it...maybe that is the point. If the oil keeps rising in the middle east then only the rich here will be able to afford it. & there does seem to be a widening gap between the rich and the poor.... |

Ride a bus, bike, walk, move closer to work. Get an education and make more than 5.85 an hour. |
