There was one month about 18 years ago when I was in the same situation. I offered to fix all the broken windows in the house in exchange for rent. There were maybe 20 broken and the weights and chains had to be replaced. It was a LOT of work but it paid my rent.

Oh, you wanted real advice... try selling or hocking your furniture/car/any electronic equipment. If falling behind on your rent is a common problem, you should probably look at getting out of your lease (put it to the landlord this way, he can start looking for someone else to take the place, or risk you breaking lease unannounced one month and be fully screwed).
If you have children, there are probably some emergency assistance programs that could help.
