You should really say WHY you want to know someone else's social security number. Those numbers are secret for a reason - as others have said, once you have someone's social security number you can create all kinds of problems for that person. That's called identity theft and it is illegal. |

I imagine you are an employer and an employee gave you a false SS# and you received a letter stating so from either the IRS or the SSA? Am I right?
Even if that is the case... you cannot do anything. Provide the IRS or SSA with copies of the records provided by the employee. They should have filled out an I-9. If they didn't... they should have. Start filling them out from now on.
Once the individual goes to file his taxes perhaps he will contact you that his SSN doesn't match. If not... it's not your concern. |

If you do not have a legitimate reason for wanting a person's social security number, you had better be care full . You might be charged with identity theft. Question ? How do you know his SSN isn't real? Are you saying you never received it for some reason ? Best thing is to ask the person involved. |

Apparently the person the SSN belongs to is a victim of ID theft and the proof is by the w2 you have which so the name and employer.
The person the SSN belongs to should contact the police and federal trade commission. and show the police the name of the person using the SSN.
contact Social Securtiy office to remove the wages, and contact the company that the SSN is being used.
the person the real SSN belongs to should request W2 for atleast 5 years back to see if anyone else is using the SSN. |
