How come I got $900 when I filed jointly with two quailifing kids. It should be $1800 right.?
on my 1040 line 46 it has 0.

Since Line 46 is zero, you will only get $300 per adult if both work. You should get $300 for each child WHO IS UNDER 17 years old on 12/31/07.

Best way to be sure is to go to IRS.gov and run the stimulus estimator. Read each line carefully before making your entry.

I'm sure you should not get $1800 but I can't tell you the right answer without knowing the age of the children and if both adults worked.

No, not necessarily $1800. You and your spouse get at least $600 total for the two of you, or UP TO $1200 if your income tax liability was $1200 or more. Two eligible kids should give you another $300 each, which would mean at least $1200 total for the four of you.

Are you sure both kids are eligible? The have to be YOUR child under age 17.

No, it's based upon your tax liability. A joint return with 2 qualifying children would normally rate at least $1,200 -- $600 for the couple and $300 for each of the children. If your tax liability is less than $600, then you only qualify for the base $600 rebate. Your tax liability for the rebate is the sum of lines 57 and 52 on Form 1040, not line 46 as some folks seem to think.

If you are only getting $900 and have 2 children listed on your return, one of them must have turned 17 on or before Dec 31, 2007. There's also a slight chance that you made an error on the Child Tax Credit form that resulted in your not getting the full $1,200 that you would be entitled to if both of them were under age 17 as of Dec 31, 2007. The IRS is aware of those folks and will be making supplemental payments to them in July sometime.

If you filed jointly and the two kids are eligible for child tax credit, the minimum you should get is $1200 ($300 for each). Call IRS and find out.

The rebate payment is equal the amount of tax liability on the return (tax liability on the return Form 1040 line 46 or Form 1040A line 28) with a minimum amount of $300 and a maximum amount of $600 for individuals.

If you do not receive full amount of $600 now, then you may get the balance amount when you file your 2008 return, and you become eligible for the tax rebate.

For information on stimulus tax rebate read: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/02/are-you-eligible.html

The only guarantee of the rebate is that you will receive 300 per child. The 600 per taxpayer is only an estimate - it is always worded as 'up to 600' and it's based upon qualifying income. You should log onto www.irs.gov to review what actually qualifies as 'qualifying income'. It also could be that you made too much. On the good note, at least you received yours. I'm still waiting.

you get 600 if you made more than 3,000 and paid in at least 600 in federal taxes thats what the tax office said cause i thought the same

g-ma
if you have 0 tax you would get 600 $$ for you and your spouse and 300 each chid that is 16 or younger for total of 1200$$$

camjax
You should go to irs.gov and have your 2007 tax info. What you recieve depends on a few diff. things, but mainly your tax bracket (how much you earned in '07) your dependants and if anyone else can claim your dependants. (divorcee) Its really all easy to understand and you can find out anything you wasnt to know there.

depending on your income you either got $300 or $600 for yourself, plus $300 per child that you claimed on your taxes.

It sounds like one of your kids is over 16 and you did not pay enough taxes to get the full rebate. You got $300 for you, $300 for your spouse and $300 for one kid.

Kids 17 or over do not qualify for the rebate. And you have to look at line 46 to see what your total tax is. In order to get an $1,800 rebate, you have to have at least $1,800 in total taxes. Since line 46 is zero, you did not pay any tax, so you only qualify for the $300 rebate.

If your income goes up in 2008 and you pay more in taxes, you might be able to get more rebate with your 2008 refund. The rebate is really an early credit against a 2008 tax cut. I have no idea how that is going to work. They probably won't come out with specifics until after October 15.
