How come kids still have to pay taxes (gst, pst etc.) if they can't vote?
Kids can't vote but are still forced to pay gst and pst. How is this right and how come no one has done anything about it. From my point of view if i can't vote or be heard then why should i have to pay for taxes that we don't get anything from. I would like to be the first to one day change this. Let me know your thoughts and opions on this topic . Thanks, Brendan :)

If you think, it is not like we are getting free health care because our parents have to pay a fee of about 1000 dollars a year for your health card and still pay extra taxes on top of that. there is no reason why they need other funds (gst, pst) to pay for that stuff and even seniors have to pay for an education tax which is also wrong. Our goverments need work. They are too greedy and don't need all the money they are getting. They even raise there own paychecks it is rediculous.

They still derive benefit from government services whether they can vote or not.

The kids get all kinds of stuff from the government, an education, skate parks, splash pads, busses to the mall, halfway houses with sexual predators located near universities.

Because you don't pay taxes to vote (I am canadian). You pay to get health care, social services, the bus lines, road maintainance, and things like that which you use.

Everyone that benefits from our society has to pay taxes. Tax money pays for all the things that make our society civilized, (roads ,schools, defense, national parks, etc...). Just because you don't vote doesn't mean a thing. Voting is for people with enough experience to make decisions and the only way we can make sure you can do that is to wait long enough we hope!

Reggie B
Because kids are not mature enough to vote.

josie_lam
do you still get free education and health care if you're a kid?? Forgot that one did you?

yaguru
based on your question, you don't really understand how things work, and therefore shouldnt be allowed to vote. You should ask your parents for some of the tax rebates and such they get back from the government!!!!!!!

you do get something from it. it pays for your public education(schools and libraries, public safety(police, fireman, ambulace, armed forces), and just about any other government job.

xaargh
You still use the services those taxes pay for, and in a few years you'll be able to vote anyways. It's not like the fact that you can't vote until you're a wee bit more mature makes you less of a citizen.

Andy Kay
You don't pay income tax so i don't really see how this is a problem. GST and PST taxes are based on a volume of how much you buy. The reason you pay taxes on things you buy is because the money you probably earned as a kid was from your parents or non Social insurance backed job such as mowing grass isn't your money so it's required to be taxed.

If you ARE old enough to have a real job with income tax, then just ignore what I said.

raysmithson1
you pay taxes ? you live at home are under 18 , I don't know what taxes these are ? well It must be the govt. thinks you are too immature, make sense? don't dwell on it , just a waste of your time, nuff said

Rachel
YEAH! No taxation without representation!
I dunno why.

If a child makes more than a minimal amount of money, they pay taxes as should everyone else that partakes of the services provided by being a member of the community. I do not go to school. I have no children, thus have no one directly related to me that goes to school, has gone to school, or will go to school. But it is for the good of the community that the children of our society are educated, which is why I don't have a problem paying taxes that pay for education.

Children (and YOU) are protected by the police (an example). If a child makes enough money to chip in to pay for this service, it is a good thing- and it's good that they are learning at an age that it won't come as a surprise when they hit the age of majority.

The roads in which you drive are probably lit and paved - and paid by a tax of something.

I don't like to pay taxes either, but I absolutely see the necessity- and I've been paying taxes since I've been 14. Get used to it.

its because youre making money off of the place you work. the place you work makes money off another company, that makes money off of the government.

it isnt about age or anything its about how much money you make.

if you notice, you dont work, you dont get W2s so you CANT fill out tax forms.

**im sorry im correcting myself, w2 is america i dont know about canada..
but the taxes you pay when you purchase items go to make street lights, stop signs, *gas, parks, *public schooling, prison, ect.

* things like gas and public schooling, taxes arent being used enough on these which is why gas is so expensive and schools are losing programs.

They don't have to pay taxes unless your some person in Iraq or something.

Izzy
Ya we shouldn't have to pay taxes because we dont have a say in anything. If we have to pay taxes, like everyone that can vote, then we should be able to vote on somethings, at least.

murndog
why do we have to pay taxes on stuff when we don't get a say in what happens to it, isn't there a right that everyone gets a say?
