holy freaking cow ,what a bunch of chiselers and weasels, and skinflints,no wonder the system is broke. yet you got that hand out , Christ .B TW I work for the IRS.

Josh
If you've won the lottery, why are you worrying about insurance.

AJ
If you have already claimed it as you say, then they deducted the taxes already plus have your SSI#, so the question is now moot. I am sure you already signed papers too. How much was it anyway?

find a trusted person who can collect for you.

Since SSI is a needs-based program, if you've just won a whole lot of money, you don't need the assistance. The maximum you can have varies by state, marital status, if you live alone.

Have an adult relative that you trust to claim the ticket and split the winnings. It's a gamble, but then life is.

This is not rocket science.
I was in a similiar situation several years ago
I had a trusted friend and confidante claim the money for me
I gave her a token gift of appreication, and lost none of my
benefits.

SickGurl
best thing to do is look up the laws for your state. Most lotto winnings are taxed and they are just that, winnings. so u arent supposed to lose income from SSI disability

It makes me sick when people say if your on ssi you shouldent be allowed to play the lottery. I'm on. Ssi because I got sick young my heart copd sleep apnea high blood preasure and diabetic. So what if I have 2 dollars left and want to dream maby I won't have to strugle every month I'm thank full for ssi but people who say they should take our money if we win make me sick and are most likely unhappy with there own lives and want others to feel the same people who are poor are human to you jerk. I guess its still the same mind frame every body who is poor or sick and on ssi or food stamps are nothing but lo lifes and I'm sure your a racisy as well

someguy
The guy said he won the lottery that doesn't mean he won the jackpot or even a substantial amount he may have won a thousand dollars. Him reporting it would cause him to lose his SSI and possibly insurance benefits because his reported income would be too high yet on a day to day basis after the small sum of money he won runs out he will still no longer have insurance coverage in the interim until he reapplies which is basically like gambling unto itself. This is a real question and real problem. The guy's trying to be honest and claim his winnings and will be penalized for it that's pretty bad. I do agree if he won like a million dollars then trying to get free insurance is cheap but I'm guessing if the guy won a million dollars he wouldn't be that cheap. Just sayin.
