How do I claim tax back from a previous tax year. (uk)?

Additional Details
I temp and I didn't work the whole of last year. My agency did not give me my p45 when my last assignment finished.

If you didn't work in the last tax year, you won't have had any tax deducted.
Agencies are notorious for not giving forms P45. Even though you finish a placement, agency still tends to keep you on their books. You could ask agency form form P45, and formally resign, or contact tax office to see what records are held for you. Staff could tell you if any further information is required, but figures that old should be on your record from employer's returns.
You can claim refund by writing to tax office, and ask for a review of your records.

my daughter has just claimed back tax for the last tax year . she was wrongly charged too much and they have paid her a chq for the tax yr 2007-8 and are sorting out her tax code and making a refund for what has been wrongly paid so far this tax yr.

u need to send yr p60 to yr employers tax office. u can ring them up and speak to them about it u should bea ble to find the address/tel no on the inland revenue website.

You can claim back any tax that you have Over paid in the last 6 years, if you think you have over paid tax and want a rebate visit the HMRC site at: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/refund-reclaim.htm

have a look at the direct.gov website and it will give you advice on what you need and where to find the information relating to a claim. ie tax district, paye code, P60.

Daniel C
Just reduce what you pay this year and keep a record of why you did, would not bother contacting the IR about it, it will take them approx. 5 years to send you a rebate, get what you are owed, this stinking government take enough of our cash in everything we do !!!!

I don't really know about UK but in the US you can file back up to three years. If you don't have your w2 you would need to contact IRS to get the info they have to file remember this is US info so just try it that way in the UK contact the people there who would have that info. hope it helps

spring_rainbows
I dont think you can like most things claiming tax back also has a restriction on how long you can claim back too. I think you'll only be able to claim back for the most recent tax year
