I currently use scottrade to trade my stocks. But I'm still down $2000 since the beginning. I need to file my tax return. How do I get the 1099-B and schedule D?

They will automatically send you the 1099b and the schedule D is a tax form you can get online. You file if you sell not just if the value is down.

The broker provides you with the 1099Bs for each trade. You can download that info from your account.

The Schedule D is available at irs.gov and it attached to your return. Or use a software package and it will be included.

Scottrade will send you the 1099-B in January. You can download schedule D at irs.gov - go to "forms and publications", then to "forms and instructions", then scroll down to find the forms you need. You can most likely also get copies at your local library.

You can probably go online and pull it down(1099-B). It will probably be available some time in Jan 2009. I don't think they will preparer your schedule D. You have to do that,

u should get the 1099 by Jan 31 and you can download the schedule D from irs.gov

Schedule D is in your tax booklet and can be downloaded from the IRS website.

My brokerage puts out the 1099 between January 26 and February 17. What tax year are you talking about? Prior years can probably be requested from scottrade.

You will get 1099-B from the broker or you will be able to download it from scottrade website.
You must report every sale in 2008 on your schedule D. If you are using software, it may have capabilty to download the information from Scottrade website directly to your tax return schedule D. Any question, ask Scottrade.
