You don't have to pay back the rebate. It's truly FREE money for you.
If you wish to pay it back to the government, cash it and send a check to the Bureau of the Public Debt. Here's the FAQ from their website:
Q. How do you make a contribution to reduce the debt?
A. Make your check payable to the Bureau of the Public Debt, and in the memo section, notate that it is a Gift to reduce the Debt Held by the Public. Mail your check to:
Attn Dept G
Bureau Of the Public Debt
P. O. Box 2188
Parkersburg, WV 26106-2188
On the other hand, you can help to finance the Public Debt and keep the money on the home front by investing in various Treasury Securities such as US Savings Bonds. |

I would recommend endorsing it over to a favorite charity, if you really don't want it.
However the IRS does in fact, accept check payments made out to "Internal Revenue Service" with the designated purpose written on the check as, "To Reduce the National Debt". |

I don't think this rebate is truely free money.
I was listening to the news last night and they said that each state will decide on if they will tax this money for the 08' state tax. So we may have to pay state taxes on it. I think I was watching CNN when I heard this information. |

Save it cause you will need all the money you can get if McCain gets in office he is just going to destroy anyone who his not in his network of people in the top 3% of wealth. They will need each other but if you are in that level then just send it to the IRS. We common people appreciate you. |
