Are you receiving it or losing it? If you are receiving it, I would say to contact the state agency responsible for chasing it for you. If paying it, contact either the IRS if federal refund or your state dept of revenue if state refund. |

If you mean to get it started if the childs parent owes back child support,, you'll have to get a court order. Courts & IRS will have to do paper work. It is not a quick process. You could go through legal aid if you qualify financially. |

You should be able to contact the IRS and ask them. They will have record of this for sure. But, if you are owing back child support. It is guaranteed (in Georgia anyway) that any tax refunds will be rerouted to pay that debt.
Good luck with it. |

Call or write the IRS and ask if the refund was "attached"? |

Raise your deductions so you owe a little at the end of the year. No refund, no garnishment.
But I have to ask, why do you want to deny your children financial help? |

You might have to check with your local family court how that would work or go straight to an IRS advocate to find out:

Does someone owe you back support monies?
If you are not then why "attach" the check?
If so, the government will do all of the work for you. |
