How do i replace lost w-2 forms so i can file my taxes?

Contact your employer for copies. They are required by law to get them for you. Some tax prep places will accept your last pay stub.

All you can do is contact your employer and ask them to resend

Tabitha
YOu have to call your employer and ask for a new one. They have to give it to you.

answerman
Talk to human resources they can replace them.

Request duplicate W-2 forms from your employer.

Most employers receive reference copies. You could contact your employers and request copies. Some places will charge you a copy fee. If they did not receive a reference copy they may need to request a copy from the payroll company. I know that ADP and Paychex both charge about $25.00 for a new copy so you may be expected to pay for it.

Doesnt H&R do taxes without w-2's?

Contact your employer. A copy of the form is for the employer's files, so even if it issued handwritten W-2s, it would have a copy. Most companies use a payroll service. The service (or your employer if it uses computer software to prepare the payroll reports) can print new copies. If your employer is out of business, you can reconstruct your W-2 from your last paycheck of the year if it shows year-to-date totals.

Employers are required to send copies of W-2s to the Social Security Administration, not to the IRS so contacting the IRS is pointless. The SSA is still processing all it's mail, so it can't help either. (FYI, W-2s are required to be sent to the SSA by February 28th.)

you should either go back to you jobs and tell them what happen or go to the internal revenue services in your area and tell them about your situation and that you need to file your taxes.

you have until april 15 to try and get them from your employer...but call the irs ad let them know which employer you are missing them from....then you fill out a Form 4852 to file that will substitute as a w-2

*Contacting the IRS isn't pointless - they even say to contact them if your former employer won't send a W-2. The IRS can penalize them for not sending the w-2.
