Due 02/24/09!!
How do strippers file taxes?
I am a dancer in Portland, OR, but my address and everything else is in Washington State. I have been dancing the last 2 years and haven't filed. I want to do my taxes but I don't have receipts saying what I paid out every night or what I have made. I just want to know what tax form I would use and what I would say I have made since I have no verifiable income. Help me! I'm scared the IRS is going to find me and take me away! :)
Additional Details
I really just need to know what kind of tax form I would need. Technically I am an independent contractor.

Form 1040, Schedules C (or C-EZ) and SE.

(That line about "paid out" suggests that you pay bribes (oops, scratch that) "tips" to the bouncer to direct patrons to you. That would be complicated....) Just report your estimate of what you made and paid out. Be honest, but if the numbers aren't in line with other dancers in the area, the IRS may decide to audit your return. In addition, if the dancing isn't completely legal, you may want to write "entertainer" rather than "dancer" or "stripper" as your occupation and/or occupation code on schedule C. You are required to report all income, even illegal income, but you're not required to report that the income IS illegal.

As Washington doesn't have an income tax, you need to file a form 40N (non-resident) with Oregon. According to the instructions, you may need to file form TM (TriMet Self-Employment Tax Return).

Alternatively, you can purchase tax software such as TurboTax or TaxCut for both 2006 and 2007, although I don't know whether that covers form TM. You cannot E-file 2006 returns, and apparently cannot E-file form TM, regardless, but you can still E-file 2007 returns until the extended due date of October 15, 2008.

You'd file a schedule C or C-EZ showing your income and any associated allowable expenses, and a schedule SE to calculate your self employment tax. The numbers from the bottom of the two schedules will go onto a form 1040 (not 1040EZ or 1040A) to calculate your total tax owed. You keep your own records of what you are paid and your tips, and report the amounts from your own records.

If you don't have receipts etc, then you need to keep books chronicle what you pay out and what you take in each day. As long as you write it down the IRS is not going to be too fussy

my guess would be as an "Entertainer..."

I take it that you are paid in cash and don't get 1099s? I would consult a CPA or tax advisor to determine the best way to proceed. You need to "get straight" on taxes. It isn't only income tax; FICA and Medicare tax are also an issue.

If you are an independent contractor, you must file Schedules C and SE along with federal Form 1040. Keep track of your expenses (but not commuting costs to go between home and work). You should also be paying quarterly estimates of the amount of taxes you expect to pay -- including the self-employment tax which covers both the employer and employee portions of Social Security.

I'm not local to your area, so I don't know details of your state taxes, but typically you would also have to file a nonresident state income tax return to pay taxes to the state where you work (OR), and would have to file a resident income tax return to determine if additional taxes were due to the state where you live (WA). --- I just looked it up, and WA does not have a state income tax, so that's one less worry.

I applaud your honesty. Taxes tend to be quite complex for the self-employed, so you might ask around to see if there is a local expert your colleagues use -- one as honest as you are.

i assume that all your salary was cash. if so, just fill out a 1040 and include whatever amount you think is appropriate for income

If the club you dance at does not pay you any type of income just claim it as self employment and you will claim whatever you feel is a lagitiment amount. But i would start keeping better records and start paying into taxes and social security by the estimated tax forms. If you have deposit slips and bank records where you have deposited your money then it will be one way of verifying your income.

As an independent contractor you would file Schedule C, and estimate as best as you can how much you made. Maybe you have statements from the bank when you deposit the money, etc. If you do a schedule c, since you never paid taxes all year, you will be required to pay social security taxes and medicare taxes. As far as Fed and state, depending how much money you made and if you are claiming anyone else on your taxes besides yourself.

If you do not receive a w2 or a 1099, there is no way that IRS will know how much you make and will not be able to enforce it. Please give me more info...
