I work at a grocery store and I see all kinds of people. But the worst are the ones who are rude, loud, have horrible hygeine and have no idea how to act in public, and not to mention missing teeth. They have like 4 or 5 kids and they are dirty as well and rude just like their parents. They are buying steak and icecream and all kinds of good stuff with food stamps! Its not fair! There I am working hard and I can't bring home steak and stuff! How are your feelings on this issue? |

Welfare money is crime prevention. You're not likely to steal, are you? You're not likely to start a food riot, are you? Well some people are. The money is to keep them pacified.
It's like telling them "Hey, loser, shove some ice cream in your pie hole and STFU". Politicians have to do something about them.
And then there are some people who really need it and use it as it was intended; a temporary aid to survival. They are not all bad. I don't mind giving them help at all.
Work hard, be a winner, and Let It Be. All tolled, it doesn't add up to much of your tax money. |

I was on food stamps many years ago, and my children have manners. regardless of food stamps, it's how your brought up, just like there are people who have money who are rude and need a bath. what's there excuse. |

There is a lot of abuse in the welfare system if you ask me, and there are a lot of people on it who shouldn't be on it.
A lot of them continue to have more kids, even though they can't afford the ones they have. But that's OK, because the goverment will just give them more money. Then, when their kids grow up a lot of them will be on welfare too and having their own kids.
If you ask me there should be some kind of system, where they have to demonstrate on a regular basis that they have tried to find work to support themselves just people have to do on unemployment. There should also be a limit to how long someone can be on welfare. |

I mean to be honest, I do not care about a persons physical appearance. I live in a kind of well off neighborhood and the kids and families here are just as bad, if not worse, they just have the money to hide it.
However, I do think welfare is necessary, especially in this country. The government just needs to put more restrictions on those who use it. |

Depends I guess. An exception would be the handicap. The people you are seeing shouldn't deserve welfare unless they are a single mom or dad. Poor people complain about the littlest things because every dollar counts. |

I don't care if the welfare recipients are all neat, clean, and have good manners. They should not be given a handout. For one thing, it's extremely unfair to the good, hard-working people like you. In fact, it's unfair to all taxpayers.
Let the private sector, especially the Limousine Liberals, step in and give voluntarily if they want to. You should have the right to keep your hard earned money and use it as you see fit. The politicians and bureaucrats are violating your rights.... BIG TIME.
I wish I could tell you what we can do about it. Writing your congressman does no good unless 100,000 others write also.

The benefits are there for any of us if we want to really hit rock bottom. Live with cockroaches and take the public bus everywhere. I guess the highlight of their day is eating steak and good ice-cream. While probably weighing in at 400 pounds also.

I feel the same way. I'm sick and tired of my tax dollars going to these welfare perticipants. They lay up and have all of these kids and then go straight to the welfare office applying for welfare, foodstamps and medicade. Yes they are always rude and and yes the kids act the same as the parent. When I'm in the grocery store I can always tell just by looking at the person in front of me with 2,3,4 kids that they are going to be buying with my dam tax dollars. Holding up the line paying for 2-3 items seperately. If they can lay up and have all of these welfare kids then they can go out and find a job I'm sick of paying for them and their rude kids. They buy more food with my tax dollars then I could ever buy and I work for everything. |

It depends on the family. For an example, no one will hire a person who has a degree in Accounting who is deaf just because he can't hear. So the only way he can provide is to be on SSI or SSD with Food stamp to take care of his children. I see so many people who have no degrees who is able to hear or talk normally, get the job no matter how much degrees or experiences a deaf person have. We used to have food stamp and we are very kind and caring family. We don't judge, we don't take, we just wanted to live a good life. It's hard to live a good life when no one would want to hire anyone who is disabled.
For the ones who lives on welfare that are able to work should not take advantage of it. THey should work if the opportunity is given to them. Heck, if i have an opportunity given to me to make a decent living and it will help me give up my SSD or SSI, I would take it in a heartbeat but the way the world is today, no one would hire a deaf, college degree employee. It's a sad world. |

I think it stinks. I had 4 kids and we struggled and we never asked for a hand out. People need to learn to work to take care of their families. I'm not talking about the folks who met on hard times and need tempory assistance. I'm talking about the ones who make a career out of being on welfare. it takes away from those who need in for only a short time and cant qualify because they have a house or car. Not fair |

I understand your grievance and appreciate your frustration with this issue. I too had similar feelings as you on this subject when a friend put me in my place by the following statement: "It's worth giving a few who don't deserve the help in order to help the majority that do." What she meant by that is that in any program there will be abuse of it but you can't put down the entire system just because a few don't obey the rules. I am from a small town where 84% of the kids are on the free lunch program at school. I am not one of them but for the most part, those that are on it need it. In most cases, it's the only meal they get. The welfare system's intent is to help those that cannot help themselves. I would think it would be very hard to overcome a daily struggle of not knowing where you're next meal will come from or having a mom or dad that drink and abuse you or whatever these kids face regularly. I know that hygiene is of concern but more than likely, they either don't have running water in their shack of a home or they truly do not know to buy soap. The true failure of the welfare system is not them giving away money but not investing in education of daily life - I'm not talking about school, I mean how to live and function in society...or better yet, provide useful and meaningful strategies on how to overcome poverty. Sure, they preach school/college, but for someone with a bleak daily life, they can't see past today, much less study for a test tomorrow. The government needs to provide in-home assistance for these people on how to use what they have to make their life better. How to budget what little money they have, etc. |

I disagree I think that welfare is needed and not all people who get it are trashy people that don't want to work. I worked for many years and ended up marrying an abuser the only way I could get out of that situation was by asking for help and I am far from a trashy person but when I left I also had to leave my state and my job to be safe so I ended up having to get tanf and food stamps and I have a decent education some people just need a little help to get back on their feet. As for the ones who just stay on it forever I think that is wrong but using it for a temp. means till you get where you need to go is alright. |

I work at a grocery store and i been in nice 40,000+ income stores and 10,000-25,000 stores...you see the same thing Dirty,rude people buying the best of food's ,kids running all over the store,i wish i could get half of what they get but then i rember being 7 and my mother had food stamps ..you see when we came over from scotland she got help ..BUT she also went to school,worker at a video store,and cleaned house's till she finished school then she didnt use food stamps ..maybe 15% of people getting aid do this witch is good it's the other 85 % that make me sick as years go on and we(america) slip away from any moral fabric we will become a 3rd world..we praise'' pop stars'',love scripted reality t.v,video games ,fast food,music sung or raped my non musicians,and have a t.v show about being a pregnent 16 year old no less giving them a reward for having unprotected out of marraige..or even a healthy relationship..kids love rappers but only if they are in a gang or sold drugs..we have no moral ..so no wonder people will take the hand out |
