Angelus | How do you figure sales tax on an item? |
I just started selling avon and its 7 percent here where I am in Nebraska. How do I figure in sales tax for my sales? |
|

selling Avon may differ, ask your superior for sure, but generally to calculate sales tax just take the original price and (in your case) multiply that number by 0.07. for the total after tax u can instead multiply by 1.07. oh, also, round up the total to the nearest cent (the x.xx number) if the 4th number (like this: x.xx66858) is 5 or higher, round down if it is under 5 (as in x.xx336262). hope this helps. |

Based on the sales tax in your city, change that figure to a decimal and multiply it to the cost of the product. IE. if your
local sales tax is 8.25% and you're buying a $10.00 item,
$10.00 x .0825 = .8250 or 83 cents |

Take the sales price and multiply by the sales tax rate. The resulting number is the sales tax and then you add that to the sales price. That is the total you must collect from your customers. |

Total of product X .07 = tax.
Add tax + product price.
Example: Item costs 1.50
Multiply 1.50 x .07 = .0105 ( .11)
1.50 + .11 = 1.61 |

if you're wanting to tell someone what the total will be, the formula is this:
price x 1.07 = their cost
if you're wanting to know what the total tax would be only, it's:
price x .07 = total tax |

grab your calculator
sales amount $10.00
multiply by .07 = .70
total sales price is $10.70
the Department of Revenue should have provided you with a chart
as all sales aren't "on the dollar" like the example
.01-.15 = .01
.16-.29 = .02 etc for the cents
and then $2 = .14
$3 = .21
and then you add up from there
best of luck
go for that pink car! |

you will take the price of the item say $12.00 and multiply times .07% and it will tell you the tax. You will add that to the $12.00 and that's how much you should charge. |

Multiply total by 1.07, or multiply by .07 and then add the total amount to that. |

ahh good one! Get your calculator ready! Ok
1. Find out exactly how much sales tax is being charge. (0.08=8% etc.)
2. take the price of an item for example an iPod= $200.00
3. Multiply this by the sales tax percentage but convert the percentage into decimal form. 8% = 0.08, 4% = 0.04, 24%= 0.24
4. (200.00 * .08) = 16.0
5. So if you buy an iPod at $200.00 at 8% sales tax you end up paying $16.00 in sales tax! cool eh?
6. you can also use this when trying to find how much you get off of an item when you see a sign saying 25% ALL ITEMS: take the price (iPod = 200.00) and multiply it by that percentage in decimal form. ( 200.00 * .25 = 50.00. So 25% off of a $200 iPod saves you $50.00! |

Just multiply the subtotal by 0.07 then add that number to the subtotal and voila! you have your total amount.
Example: An item costs $10
$10 x .007= $0.70 (Tax)
$0.70 + 10 = $10.70 (Total) |
