Call the IRS directly and reportt the information.
But do not do anything illegal.
And do not expect immediate action. IRS usually audits returns from two years ago and is a behemoth. Justice comes slowly, and you have to be patient.
The IRS, if the amounts are large does have fraud enforcement offices (CID) and can put this woman in prison for tax evasion. Intent, which is the basis for fraud, is very hard to prove. I resolved a fraud case solely because the taxpayer told me flat-out he understated his revenue by $700,000 over the course of his ten-year sole proprietorship (vending machines). No jail time for him, because I got him off as a cooperating witness, but I had to call CID anyway to consult on the audit. Just standard procedure.
Be careful, though. This lady could do the same to you, but if you are clean you are clean.

Call the IRS. If your doing this because you believe it's wrong, which it is, then go for it. But if you doing this to punish someone then you need to take a long hard look at yourself. This is a tough one. I hate to hear about someone cheating on their taxes when my hubby and I get screwed every year. |
