Patrick | How do you write 6 1/2 % in decimal form? |
Is it .65 or .065 or something else? |
|

Art A
|
You write it .065.
Think of it this way - 10% would be .10, so it cannot be .65, which is 6 1/2 times larger than .10, so it has to have a zero before the 6, i.e. .065.
I hope this helps you to understand the principle. |

YOU DIVIDE 100, WHICH REPRESENTS THE WHOLE INTO .065 WHICH REPRESENTS THRE KNOW EXISTING NUMBER AND YOU GET .065. |

Your question is ambiguous. To STATE 6 1/2 % in decimal form, you WRITE it as 6.5 %. To USE it in a mathematical computation, you WRITE it as .065. When you remove the % symbol (which means "per hundred"), the decimal point moves 2 spaces to the left. Class dismissed! |

as it is it is: 6.50 If you have Six and a half bucks, do you have sixtyfive hundreths of Six dollars and fifty cents, or do you have Six dollars and fifty cents. Also, remember that you can't have sixty-five thousands of a dollar either. When in doubt, convert your percentages into money, you'll never get them wrong then. |
