megster788 | How is the IRS bad? |
Additional Details I am a student in debate and I am trying to relate the IRS to the phrase "search without probable cause" in the Constitution. I know that they randomly select tax returns to check on, but to me that's not really in violation -- I mean, law requires citizens to give them tax returns, so it's not like they're invading our privacy, right? The thing I want to know is, if they audit a business - randomly - is that without probable cause? If so, isn't that a blatent violation of Constitutional rights? And if that is true -- how have they gotten away with it all of these years?

There are several good points raised.
They do treat you like you are guilty until you are proven innocent.
Whenever you have an agency that has that much power without anyone watching THEM, you get a risk for abuse of power.
For example, the IRS audited the enemies of President Clinton. This sort of selective attention is just wrong. |

that's a point of view. most people who owe them think they are bad. most who get refund checks think they are great. |

They say you are guilty until proven innocent and that's backwards to our Constitution. |

They are THE WORST! |

Without the IRS, the federal government could not be financed. Many people do feel that the tax laws are unfair though. (Very wealthy people not paying their fair share, and large corporations getting big tax breaks.) |
