They normally go back 6 years, but if they suspect fraud, ad infinitum................ |

Camaro

as far as they like, they tracked my cousin back to his school days, Dont even know why, but its the govern ment, they will spend £10,000 to get £10 |

Somebody I know told me that the inland revenue went through their accounts and told them that they can go back seven years - but that if they find a discrepancy they can go back seven years from that and so on.... So really, they can go back to the beginning. |

6 years, than can however when interviewing you go right back to when you started work. This is generally so they get a picture of your working life |

As far back as they need to, to recover any tax that is due. |

Are you talking about collection or assessment.
The statute of limitation does not apply to Revenue debts, so the 6 year limit doesn't help you. They can chase you for the money you owe even if you owe it from 1920.
For assessment purposes
they can't go back beyond 5th April 1947.
(That's nearly 60 years) |

Probably as far back as they want to. I've been told by my accountant to keep all paperwork for my band for up to six years. |

As far as the eye can see hunni! I used to work for them, chasing non payers, they will make you bankrupt if you owe more than 2500.00 and do not come to some arrangement |
