How long do you have to complete your taxes?
I haven't filed my taxes for 2006 yet. Can I still file for '07 and file for '06 later?

kate
You can file whenever, but you will be paying stiff penalties if there was any $$ due (now overdue)
Not filing / paying by April 17th this year will mean more penalties, more fines - unless you overpaid and are due refunds.
If $$ are still due from last year, figure the debt is compounding at a major rate ( a former coworker had his overdues hit the fan about 4 years after the fact and they ended up garnishing $500 a month for 5 years)
No one wants to do the tax thing but most realize how really ugly it gets if you don't do it on time.

Supplicant
If you do not owe any money then they will keep you money as long as you let them. If you owe, you will end up paying more than you want in penalties. File as soon as you can if you owe.

2006 taxes are due April 17, 2007.

2007 taxes are due April, 2008.

lynnguys
You can file for both simultaneously. You will have to file 2005 prior to your 2006 taxes and you will incur interest from anything owed for 2005. You need to have both done by April 15th, 2007 or file for extentions for both.

BMW BFD
You mean 05 and 06?
You will have penalty fines for not filing on time for 05

bakfanlin
You have till April 15, 2007 to file your taxes for 2006. Like-wise you have till April 15, 2008 to file your taxes for 2007.

You are supposed to file for 2006 now and 2007 next year. the 2006 taxes need to be postmarked by midnight April 15, 2007 if being mailed. You have until then to file on efile or other methods. The taxes for 2007 wno't be due until April 15, 2008.

April 15th is the deadline for each year unless it falls in a holiday or weekend...your 2006 taxes must be filed because you will have a penalty for being late

Your 2006 taxes are to be filed by April 17, 2007. You will not file your 2007 taxes until after January 1, 2008. If you did not file your 2005 taxes you must do so and will end up with a penalty for that tax year.

123..WAIT!
If you don't file you should file for an extension....
