simon l | How long in UK can I leave getting my car taxed? |
It expires 31 Jul 08, can I wait until 14th August? I've heard you can wait up to 2 weeks? I will be driving my vehicle on the 1st August. |

The word expires means just that.
You will be liable to a fine as you,ll
not have tax for 1st August there
is no period of grace, you must
have your car taxed even if it is
off the road. Its called continuous
taxation.
You must fill in whats known as a
SORN if you don,t want to be fined £80.00 |

You don't get any "Grace", you have to have a valid tax disk on display on the 1st.
You can tax it from 2 weeks before it runs out and if your car is parked or used on public roads un taxed you risk being fined, having your car clamped and possibly crushed.
Haven't you seen the DVLA adverts? |

you get 14 days to tax it, but you must keep your car off the road as it is an offence to use it with no tax.
driveways and private land are considered off road. |

under no circumstances can an untaxed vehicle remain or be on the queens highway.
the road tax is exactly what it says: a licence to use a vehicle on the road
there is NO leeway or day(s) of grace
put simply it is an offence and is liable to a fine or imprisonment or both to be in default ! |

Officially you have to renew it by 31 July, you might get away with leaving it longer, or you might not. But even if you do leave it until August 14th before renewing it, you won't gain anything, it will still expire on 31 July next year (or 31 Jan if you do it for 6 months). |

It's not buying the tax, the law says you have to display it. so if you buy the tax, and don't display the disc when it commences, you could stil get fined.
No, you can't legally leave it until even the 2nd August. |

All vehicles must display a valid tax disc, you should renew before the old one runs out so that thay are consecutive, you may get away with a few days grace but this is "rule of thumb" and not the law, so it becomes a question of "do I feel lucky" |

My tax expired at the end of May, but I didn't get a new tax disc until the 24th June and I never got a fine through the door. In fact I've waited longer and gotten off with it, but as someone said earlier, don't rely on it! |

14 days it says on the back of your renewal form you would have gotten in from the DVLA. |

technically at the end of the month but if you phone up DVLA to make sure and have a good excuse probably let you off with 20 days -they did me |

In theory, if you don't display a valid tax disk on 1st August, you could be fined. You usually get 2 weeks grace, but don't rely on it. |
