On your Federal Tax return (1040), you wil always claim one for yourself.

What you may be thinking of is your W4 - which is the form that you file with your payroll office. If you want more taxes taken out of your paycheck, it is the W4 form that you need to adjust.

Remember though - it's not good giving the IRS more money than absolutely necessary. Some people think getting a refund is like a little jackpot, but in reality, the IRS has your money for an entire year without paying interest.

If you owed money this year and you would rather not next year, then claim zero. Though that is giving the government a free loan of your money Much better to claim one and put some money in a savings account, you earn the interest, and pay at tax time.

If you are a dependent, put zero on your W-4, otherwise put 1.

You probably only want to take one exemption if you don't want to owe. I take two, but I always owe money.

as a single with no dependents, you get one exemption. for future reference, if you are married, you file a joint marriage return and get a total of two between you and your spouse (obviously). each dependent counts as one exemption if you have a dependent. Dependents qualify as children or for someone for whom you provide support to over the year and you make more than half of the household income. hope this helps. Best wishes.

flowers
claim 0 in the beginning because they take just a little more money out of your check through out the year. than when you do your taxes in the beginning of the year claim 1 you will get much more money back trust me i know...
