There is the Working Time Directive... which in the UK, you can opt out of.

M.A.W.
In UK,under the WORKING TIME REGULATION ACT,an individual can work up to 48 hours a week(though workers can choose to work more if they want to).

Hussydog
80 hour weeks are possible, but, (and it's a big one) You must declare you are willing to work more than 48 hours a week (European legislation that is a crock of poo) and if you injure yourself, strain yourself or drop down dead they have a clause to say you agreed to work this amount.

I have been there and it's not worth it. I worked min 72 hours a week at one point (7 days) earnt so much money and couldn't enjoy it. In fact in them 6 months I spent all my time away from work sleeping.

Good Luck.

You can work as many hours as you want - there is no limit officially - the 'norm' is 48hrs and most people think they are hard done by doing that ! - personally i am self employed and gave up counting how many hours i work !! I work form 9am till 1am every single day .... Im always tired but its about doing what you can while you can. Plenty of time to watch tv and go out when im retired!

If you are working for someone and you feel your being taken advantage of and made to work 'too many hours' then contact the CITIZENS ADVICE BUREU - in the yellow pages telephone book - and ask for their help.

No its up to you

But

If yu worked for ONE employer you are not allowed to work more than 46 hours per week without an agreement signed by you waivering your rights. The employer would be in trouble if not

My husband works 48 hours a week as shift work and I think this is the maximum you can work but he does do overtime now and again. But thinking about it docors etc.. do more hours then this. I have attached link below should help!

You can work as many hours you want.

You're employer can't force you to work more than 48, but you can choose to work more.

No need to work in Britain. Just tell them you want benefits and after you have been here for 12 months you can claim benefits for all your kids and send it to wherever you live.

We are a nation of idiots, didn't you know?.

You can work as many as you want. There is no restriction, but you'll just pay more NI and Tax, so work out if it's worth it. After all no point in getting double time if they take most of it in tax. Hope this helps and remember "all work and no play makes m_hari a dull person".
