European Working Time regulations state that a working week is 37.5 hours. The logic is simple (as all govt logic tends to be) - If people work loooong hours, other ppl stay unemployed, and claim benefits.
Britland is part of the EU, but has an "opt-out" clause - you, as an individual, can "opt out" of the regulation and work an extra 7.5 hours a week (for no extra pay). If you want to. do you want to?
Your employer cannot force you to do this. But he can then fire you for farting in the office and hope you don't nail him in an Employment Tribunal.
he's a twat that thinks he's important and cleverer than you.

Anything over 32 hours is considered fulltime. This is why you see all the companies offering 32 hours or less, so they will not have to pay benefits
Susie
37.5 is full time.

It would depend on which sector you are working in.
For instance a standard working week within an office is 37.5 hours. If you were working in factory it could be 40hrs etc
