How many years after you file your taxes can you still be audited?

For routine stuff (miscalculations, forgot to sign the return, etc.) then it's 3 years.

If there's criminal fraud, then there's no limit.

Really, you can be audited anytime, however, it is best to keep all your tax records for up to seven years after the current tax year.

They will usually only go back 7 years. Unless they find something that makes them think they should go farther back.

Lisa is correct 3 years, unless there is fruad, no limit.

Generally three years, but if there is evidence of fraud, the can go backup to seven years.
