The limit is to a set part of your Ajusted Gross Income(AGI) so if you make 100,000 and you donate 75,000 to your church you will only be able to write off 50,000, the other 25K will carry over for up to five years
Now for the three categories thanks to 1040.com
"50% of AGI Limitations
Organizations qualifying for the 50% limit include churches, educational organizations that maintain a regular student body and staff, and organizations that provide medical research, education, or
care.
30% of AGI Limitations
Organizations qualifying for the 30% limit include qualified organizations considered private organizations. In addition, some capital gain properties qualify for the 30% limit.
20% of AGI Limitations
Capital gain properties donated to private organizations qualify for the lesser of 20% of your AGI or 30% of your AGI minus any 30% limitation contributions made." |

Maximum allowed in a year is 50% of your AGI, or depending on the type of property donated could be 20% or 30%, but I doubt that limit affects very many people ;<}
If you donate more than that, the amount you can't deduct can be carried over to the next year. |

Depending on the charity, either 30% or 50% of your adjusted gross income. Depending on the type of gift, it may be 20%. See page 13 of pub 526. |

Only the contributions to qualified organizations or registered 501(c)3 charities are deductible. Your deduction is limited to 50% of your adjusted gross income, and may be limited to 30% or 20% of your adjusted gross income, depending on the type of organization you give it to.
Also this deduction is available as itemized deduction. Read gift to charity http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/05/itemized-deductions.html |

You take an Itemized Deduction for what you actually gave up to half of your income.
There is no set percentage or "standard amount". |

I have found no limit but if its over $500 there are appraisal steps to be taken |

You can deduct up to your adjusted gross income; but this includes any other itemized deductions. |
