I asked a question on the American Questions a last week and they where astonished by our prices here in the UK, the average I saw was about $6 a galleon over there which is approx £3.50 convert into litres that makes there 'gas' about 53p a litre (price fluctuates depending on exchange rate but a rough guide) there tax on gas is almost negligable certainley less than most European Countries. So no wonder they 'gas guzzle' but there resources of Natural Oil are starting to run out as well so it will be interesting to see how much their fuel prices start to rise if they have to start importing as well more fuel. |

In the pacific northwest of the U.S. regular unleaded gasoline is about 3.95/gallon at this time. Federal tax is $.18/gallon and state and local taxes are about $.12/gallon. I believe we have some of the lowest prices for fuel in the world and have had for some time. All the complaining and crying about the current surge in prices is pathetic. Whenever someone says that we need to develop our own resources the pundits poo poo it and say it would make no difference and take too much time. What a load of baloney. Our economy is oil based, just like the rest of the developed and developing world. That may change over the next 50 to 100 years, but for now it is reality. We need a national policy of exploration and development of our own resources for oil, gas, & coal along with the search for alternative sources which do not cause a surge in food cost. It would lessen the stress on prices by meeting the huge and every growing demand by the many growing economies worldwide. It would really help to start building nuclear power plants to generate electricity, still not cheep but that too would decrease pressure on oil prices. |

In most of the US it's still less than 50p per liter. Of that, less than 10p is tax in most states. Petrol taxes vary from State to State in the US. The Federal tax is around 2p per liter and state taxes range from 3.5p to about 8p. |

Lol! Gas is like 4 dollars a gallon & i dont think there is tax on it. Not here anyways. If i fill my tank up with $40 worth of gas, its $40 when i pay for it inside. No tax. Its not more or less if you pay at the pump. |

I think the tax is about $1.00 - $1.25 now. The feds get most I believe and the state gets the rest.
Of course, although it's supposed to go for roads, they spend it on all kinds of pet projects while the roads need repair and expansion. Then they tell us they need more for the roads but spend that elsewhere also. That's called embezzling if you do it.
They pull that trick with a lot of the taxes we pay. The worst one is our empty social security fund. It's been pilfered of more than a trillion bucks (that's not an exaggeration).
They belong in prison. I'm still recruiting people to put them there. When we're done, maybe we can help you with your criminal politicians. |
