How much does it typically cost to get your taxes done professionally?
Looking to get my own personal taxes complete. What is the average cost for the job?

Lg
depends on where you go
h&r block basises it on your return
some places if it's your first time going you'll cut you a deal
try turbotax.com
it's the same as getting them do professionally, you fill out what they tell you do to and they do the rest

It depends entirely upon the complexity of your return and the expertise of the preparer.

A simple return can be done yourself or you should be able to get someone to do it for around $50.

A highly complex return can cost thousands to prepare and may require the services of a CPA or tax attorney.

It's illegal to charge based on the amount of any refund or tax liability.

You need to consider why you want a CPA to do your taxes.

Also what complexity is your tax situation.

I used TurboTax for many-many years, and its
a great personal tax program.

But my taxes nowadays are very complex and I have
a CPA do them.

One advantage with having a CPA do them, is your audit
risk goes down. CPA's are licensed more or less by the IRS, so they have to be above board (not saying they cant be agressive).

Now there are others that can do taxes, such as
I beleive the term is registered agents and the like.

I'd stick with a CPA myself, and avoid the above and the H&R block stuf.

If your income is under around $40,000, you are eligible to have your taxes done at no charge at a VITA or TCE site. See irs.gov for more info on these programs.

Where I go now, an individual CPA, is only $170. I was going to the big place (H&R Block) and they were charging me upwards toward $280. So of course you know where my business went too. Hope this helps..

depends whether you filing long or short from and itemizing deductions, best bet is to call around and check prices.
I'd use Turbo Tax and file yourself, easy and less expensive as it guides you through it and then you can file online.

$ 500 by a CPA
