How much in a bi-weekly paycheck with 38K?
ok, i just changed jobs. My old job i was making 48K annually and my take home paycheck was $1100 (this is with taxes and evreything taken out). I couldnt stand the place, so i got a better job but the salary is 38K annually, so i took a 10 grand cut, but believe me i was unhappy at the old place.
My friend makes around 38K and she claims to me that her take home bi-weekly paycheck is about $1100. A long time ago i was at a job making $23K and the bi-weekly take home was $800 something. So my questions is, im hoping with my $38k annual , will i be taking home at least $1000 a paycheck. I have claimed 0 on W-2 taxes, im single and stuff. What do u think? How is it my friend was making the same paycheck as me when at my old job i was taking the same paycheck with 10 grand higher at $48k. I hope its at least $1000 with 38K!

It seems to me what your friend says about her take-home pay is reasonable. You cannot compare what you got from your previous job as you may have had more deductions for insurance, pension contributions and income tax. In any case have a good look at your pay slip which will itemise and name all deductions.

If necessary, go the the copmpany's paying office and ask them to help you understand. You can even ask your immediate boss if more convenient. No shame in that.

$1461.54 gross biweekly
- 111.81 fica
- 206.84 federal withholding tax
$1142.89 net
Net will be reduced by state income tax (if any), state disability insurance (if California), etc.

Claiming 1 withholding allowance on your W4 would reduce the federal withholding tax by $32.69 biweekly.

Divide $38,000 by 26 paychecks and your gross would be: $1,461.54. Assuming that you have no other income coming in and you are not itemizing here is what your Federal Taxes would look like. $38,000 - $5,150 (your standard deduction) = $32,850 now subtract $3,300 (your one exemption for yourself) = $29,550 (taxable Income) Look up $29,550 on the IRS 2006 tax tables and you will pay $$4,059. Subtract $4.059 from $38,000 = $33,941 divide it by 26 paydays and you will get $1,305.42. This is after federal taxes only. What about state and local taxes, 401k, union dues if any, health insurance or term life insurance coming out of your check?

your paycheck will be about $1461.53 without taxes. if you clam 0 on on your W-2 you should still get over $1000 net on your paycheck as taxes run around 18%

Your gross income should be $1,461.54. You can go on line to the IRS website and check the tax rates. I believe the website is www.irsforms.gov.

Yes it will be over $1000 if you are not taking stuff out yourself. For example 1400 or so is your gross after taxes between 250 and 350 you should still be over 1000 but if you have 401K or a savings plan then it will be lower. Your friend probably got around the same as you because they claimed dependents or you had more then just taxes coming out of your check. a $33K salary after taxes is over $1000 take home so your $38K will be more then $1000 take home.

It all depends honestly. It depends on your city and state tax. It depends on how much your employer covers on health and dental insurance. You are making 10k less, so that puts you in a lower tax bracket. (Meaning you will have a lower percentage deducted from your federal taxes).

You need to have more information on what deductions will be taken out of your pay first. My estimate is if your employer covers up to 90% of your health and free dental, your bring home pay will be about $1000 every two weeks. If you have a flex spending account or savings plan, this will be lower.
