At $400 a month, you won't owe any federal income tax assuming that is your income including tips, and you are reporting your tips to your employer like you are required to. Tips are taxable income.
You will pay 7.65% though for social security and medicare. |

1. Social Security tax 6.2% and the Medicare tax is 1.45% of all wages.
2. If you are Single dependent and if your earned income is belwo $5,350, you won't have any federal income tax. At $400 per month, you won't make more than $5,350. (For Single non-dependent, this amount is $8,750).
3. You will have zero or very little State Income tax.
4. CA has SDI that you will pay at 0.9%.
5. If you are Single non-dependent, you may even get some Earned Income Credit from IRS (federal tax).
6. If any federal tax or state tax is withheld from your paycheck, you must file your tax return to get back the refund, and maybe earned income credit. |

it depends on how much you make. if you make less the 35k a year.... and you claim 1 on your w-4 when you start your job you'll be fine... the total dollar amount would differ on how much you make in a year, but roughly 2k-4k in year... |

If you fill out your w4 with single 1, you should be even at tax time |
