The federal minimum wage is $5.85/hour. States are free to set higher minimum wages if they wish.

Minimum wage is BEFORE taxes and can differ by state - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._state_minimum_wages

There is no minimum wage defined for after taxes. Each person's tax situation is different.

The Federal minimum wage is $5.85 per hour. Some states have higher minimum wages so without knowing your state it's not possible to give a better answer.

Minimum wage is always before taxes. After taxes is whatever it works out to be for your individual situation.

Mike
the current FEDERAL minimum wage is now $ 5.85, and each state has its own level. If the Federal amount exceeds the state, you get the Federal amount. If the state you are working in exceeds the Federal level, you get the higher STATE amount. The wage is BEFORE any taxes are withheld, and the withholding amount depends on many factors, including marital status, number of exemptions, and other factors that vary state to state. For questions in YOUR state, the best bet is to contact the payroll department where you work. They are in the best position to address your specific situation.

The federal minimum wage for covered nonexempt employees is $5.85 per hour effective July 24, 2007.

The federal minimum wage provisions for covered, nonexempt employees are contained in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 included phased increases to the federal minimum wage.

For work performed prior to July 24, 2007, the federal minimum wage is $5.15 per hour.

For work performed from July 24, 2007 to July 23, 2008, the federal minimum wage is $5.85 per hour.

For work performed from July 24, 2008 to July 23, 2009, the federal minimum wage is $6.55 per hour.

For work performed on or after July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.
