Tax is based on the engine size and emissions.

Cars bought before 2001: Under 1549cc - £120 a year, Over 1549cc and it's £185 a year.

Cars after 2004 are a lot more complicated.

Newer diesel vehicles are £35 per year.Small petrol £120.......medium family £150

BRAINS
The charges are based in the amount of pollution the car produces, prices start from £35

You'll find all the details here:

If it's an older car (over 7 years old.. actually I've never owned a car less than 10 years old) then it's £120 for up to 1549cc engines and £185 for anything bigger.

It does depend on the size of the car. a small car is generally about £60 every 6 months

juju
It is related to the co2 emissions of the car, I have a normal small car vauxhall corsa, and the tax per year is £120.

MoneyMaymo
If its diesel you can pay anything from 35 quid up

if it was a small petrol engine in the car you would be around £60 every 6 months or around £110 for a year.
it is depended on the engine size not the value of the car.
hope this helps

jammygal
how big is the tank?
My car is 1.8 litre, it costs £180 a year or £100 for 6 months.
My aunt has a 0.9 litre tank, it costs much less, about £60 for 6 months.

Nothing to do with how new the car is, except if the car is more than 20 years old you pay NO TAX!!

the cost of the car has nothing to do with the cost of the tax.
If the car is newer then 2001 then the cost of the tax depends on the emissions listed on the log book. if it is before 2001 then it goes on engine size.
There is also a difference if it is diesel or petrol.
tax is paid either 6monthly or yearly and yearly is cheaper than 2x 6 months.

loads like everythng else
