A lot of these answers don't make British sense, and I think must be American. In the UK, the hours you work doesn't affect your liability. That is based on the amount you earn. If you look at www.hmrc.gov.uk/calcs/paye, you can calculate your tax due. Assuming you are entitled to the tax-free personal allowance of £5225 per annum, and doing your wages on a week 1 basis, your tax liability on £300 will be about £38.63 per week. On top of that is your National Insurance Contribution, £22.00pw. You can find that on the same site with suffix National Insurance Contributions. Your total deduction will be £60.63 per week, and you should take home about £239.37per week.
This information is based on you earning £15600 per annum, £300 per week throughout the whole year. |

WOW, can i just say i do not have the answer to this, but i was looking at other answers and saw "Becky's" answer! She needs a maths and economics lesson right away! First of all 17.5% is VAT. Not income tax! And second 2.5% of 30p is NOT 15p! 15p is 50% (ie Half of) 30p! Dont mean to sound so rude against her, but come on, how can you not tell that 15p is 50% of 30p? |

You can earn £87.00 per week with out being tax or national insurance then it all depends on your tax code and if you are on a code or on a week1 or cummulitive basis the difference between the two is with week 1 you are taxed slightly higer and the tax rate is normallly 22% and remember that in this tax year your personal allowances are £5035.00 that is split over the tax year hope this helps. On gross pay of £300.00 you should roughly get taxed £38.85 and nics 22.00 net pay would be 239.15. This is based on a tax code 522L cummulitive. |

My job pays a basic of £385 a week, after income tax and national insurance comes off I come out with just short of £300 my tax code is 522L
So I'd guess that if your basic is £300, you'll probably expect to have a take home of £240 - £250. |

Don't forget that you have a tax free allowance - ie what you can earn before paying tax, which is around £5220 a year.
A lot will also depend on what you have earn't in previous jobs and if Customs and Excise decide to put you on emergency tax.
Basically, I can't help much more, and from memory you will pay around 23p in every pound after taking into account the above allowance.
Any extra you have paid will be refunded. |

Need to know how many hours a week you work and whether or not this is your first job this tax year, if not, what your previous earnings were. Everyone above is just guessing. |

Because you dont get taxed on the first £90-ish!

Tax is still 17.5%, right?
Well 10% of £6 is 60p.
5% = half of 60p, which is 30p
2.5% is half of 30p, which is 15p.
Add 'em all up and it's £1.05 per every £6.
So, that leaves you with £4.95 |
