How do you mean Higher taxes...do you really think they are going to put up income tax....council tax may go up in the affected areas....If from Scotland, beware, or you do not realise the subsidy the English taxpayer has to pay to Scotland....and if from Wales then you too have had your share of flooding...and don't get me onto the amount of subsidy that has had to be paid over the years to NI so I would think before you post such a question.
However you do have a point about building on flood plains, but it the Scottish, Welsh and Irish and every other nationality stayed at home instead of coming to England for a better life, we would not need to build so many new houses. |

I'm a US citizen and I completely agree with you. If a person builds his house in areas where it floods often, why is it your responsibility to make up for their bad decision?
The reason is because I see in your country what is happening in mine, and that is rampant liberalism. Rather than saying truthfully, those people are stupid for living there and we should not live in such a dangerous place, those people are instead victimized and made into pity cases who, by law, must be helped out. Too much dependence on government is something I speak of often, and it pains me to see it in your and my modern cultures.
It must be understood that people WILL help each other, on a community level. It is in their best interest to do so. But to legislate that a person must provide aid for people who made a terribly bad decision is absolute insanity, and I can't believe it goes on. I'm going to stop writing before I start getting all riled up.

I have never understood how they are allowed to build on flood plains. Will the new home information packs state this and will this make the houses unsellable. As I send money to foreign disasters I have no problem supporting our own people. |

Some of the homes are not on flood plains. When a river floods, it goes for miles, nothing can stop it. Water is the strongest force there is. So homes no where near flood plains are affected.
You don't gain from English paid Taxes then? |
