£10000 a year

Taxes are automatically withheld from your paychecks but I believe you can make 5000 without having to file. Best way to find out would be the IRS website.

Your tax-free personal allowance for salary is £5,035.
(Unless you're over 65, when you can get more).

With the new budget tax rate, the next £33500 will be taxed at 20%.

However, when you start a new job, you may be charged 'emergency tax', at a very high rate.

If you leave it it'll all be refunded eventually. Or you can contact the Inland Revenue (now called HMRC) and see if you can get yourself off emergency tax early. I don't know much about that though.

The answer depends upon the nation, state and county you are referring to.

To get an exact response, you need to indicate your age, confirm you are a UK resident, whether you make payments into a Retirement Annuity Plan (RAP) and if you are Blind. Also, are you married/Civil Partner and born before 6.4.1935?

However, if I was to assume that you live in the UK, aged under 65, not blind and make no RAP premiums, then you can earn up to £5,225 per annum (2007-08 tax year), which equates to just over £100 a week, and pay no tax.

If you are employed, then you will suffer deductions of Class 1 NIC (National Insurance Contributions) once your wage hits £100.01 a week.

In addition, you can receive up to £4,250 under the Rent-A-Room exemption without incurring a tax charge.

If any of these suppositions are incorrect, then you need to amend your question accordingly. Hope this helps.

In the UK is about £5K. You still have to pay National Insurance, though - which is a kind of tax, but not called a tax, so it does not count.

Over here it's 599 dollars.

"All the answers so far have been wrong.

The correct answer is 5225 pounds, last tax year it was 5035.

I hope this helps."

It depends on the tax code. If you have an L tax code add a 5 to the end so 522L becomes 5225 which if your tax free allowance.

This is the main tax free code that everyone has however if you have a company car etc then your tax code will be different.

The simple way to find out is to find the local tax office and tell them your tax code / nat ins number and they willl tell you.
