If you earned any income at all from a job (not just like babysitting but something you filled out a W-9 form for) then you have to file. You could make as little as $500 all year long, but as long as you worked and paid taxes, you have to file.

From self employment, if you make $400 or more you are required to file.

If you work as an employee (with social security and medicare deducted from your paycheck) there are various bottom limits for being required to file, depending on your personal status. If you are single and a dependent, it's $5350; single and not a dependent, $8750.

If you don't have to file, but had tax withheld, you can file to get back what was withheld.

Gary
Still file because for low income earners that is the only way to get your tax withholdings return to you both federal and state.

You must file taxes if:

Your unearned income is over $850 (this is like stock profits, residuals and the like)

Your earned income is over $5,350 if you are a dependent (income from working); around $8,000 if you are single and no one is claiming you

Here is the link to the IRS website, please click the link that says "1040EZ Instructions". It will take you to a .pdf document and page 7 has the filing requirements.

For 2007, You must file,

If you are under 65 yrs old & your have income
- Single - $8750
- MFJointy - $17500
- MFSeparately - $3400
- H of Household - $11250

If you are a dependent under 65yrs old
- if your unearned income (investment income etc.)- more than $850
- if your earned income (you worked for it) -more than $5350

Also even you do not owe anything, but you withhheld some $, you can file a return to get that $ back.

if you work and you get a W4 or make any kind of cash money ,or have a job you will need to file your taxes!
The tax person can and will tell you what you need and if you need to file or not.

you have to file taxes, you may get all of the money you paid or may not have to pay anything at all but if you have a job you have to file.

I think if you make ANY, you are supposed to.

If you have earned any money from an employer that has issued you a pay roll check then you, by law, should file your taxes, but if your job is considered "under the table" (like baby setting or cleaning houses for friends ext.) then you don't have to file.
