How much money does a 16 year old need to make before Federal taxes are taken out? WE live in Wa state.?

Federal Taxes are taxen out on any pay that is not paid under the table. Any job that requires a filing status with the IRS, Federal and State Income taxes will be withdrawn, and certain cities also will require income tax to be withheld.
Certain States will refund that tax back to you if you make under a certain amount, but that amount is usually very low.
According to the IRS website, if the unearned income is below 850.00 a year, or earned income under 5350.00, then you do not need to file a federal Tax return.

The standard deduction is $3,650.00. Anything below that will be refunded.

And. this is Federal tax, so it does not matter what state you live in.

Social security and medicare will be taken out no matter how little you make. Federal income tax will be taken out if you make more than around $100 a week. Put zero allowances on your W-4 form that they'll have you fill out when you start work.

travelguruette
It doesnt matter what state you live in for federal taxes. You would have to earn more than your standard deduction. Around $5350

$3,000.00 a year. Anything under that amount and it gets returned to you when you file your taxes at years end.

If you are a dependent, and have only earned income (wages), then you are not required to file tax return if income is less than $5,450.

From your pay check employer will deduct SS tax at 6.2% and Medicare tax at 1.45%.

they start to take out taxes as soon as you get your first pay check, but you can get most of it back when you file your tax return on apr 15.

It depends on how you filled out your W-4, not on your age or state.
