Assuming that you receive the full Basic Income Tax Allowance, you can earn £5,225 up to 5th April 2008, before any tax is due. Unfortunately, the Tax System assumes continuous employment, so they would work on the basis that your annual income is £20,800 (£400 times 52 weeks) and tax you accordingly. If you are going to be working for less than 13 weeks this Tax Year, you can claim back any overpayment of tax from April of next year.

If you Google PAYE calculation/UK, you will come up with some accountant sponsored sites with PAYE calculators on them. Take your pick. |

Your total takehome on earnings of £1,840 with tax code 522L will be approx £1,399. You will be deducted £155 NI & £286 tax.
Hope this helps. |

22% tax is now ? + NI
take third off and you wont be far wrong so £1200 ish |

Allowing roughly 8% for NI and then taking your non taxable monthly income of £435 into account, you may end up with around £1415. |

WTF do you do to get paid that kind of wage? All the jobs I have had have never paid above £1K before tax and WITH overtime I might add.
522L is a single persons allowance, means you get 5,220 or 5,225 of tax relief, divide that by 12 to get a ball park monthly, deduct that off your gross and that gives your taxable income.
I used to calculate a ball park figure on gross of 21% as its easier to work on the basis that at least 1/5th your income is tax. Its far easier to use that method as you need a set of PAYE books to calculate the actual tax amount.
If you suspect your over paying on tax then speak direct with the tax office.
£1840 is over £22K a year so you will be paying slightly more tax because your earning more. |
