How much per person is the tax rebate?
I was told that it was supposed to be $600/person and then $300 per kid, but I only got $300 and then $300 for my son.

Will I have to claim this money next year?

if you are a single person the rebate amount is between $300 and $600 depending on your tax liability on line 46 of your 1040 tax return. In addition you would get $300 for each child on the return 16 years old or younger.

The amount does vary.

Single people were eligible for UP TO $600 (plus $300 per child under 17). People seemed to have ignored the UP TO part.

If your tax liability for 2007 was $300 or lower, you would only receive $300 for yourself.

Goldenrain
The amount is determined by how much you made last year. You don't have to pay taxes on/claim this money next year.

I never even saw mine so be lucky

Depends on cercumstances. If you didnt make much money or whatnot then you may have gotten less.

no u dont have to claim it next year.what was your tax liability? if you didnt pay taxes you get the base amount and the child credit and thats all.....so the 600.00 u recived is correct.

Judy1
Whoever told you that it was $600 per adult was wrong. All of the official letters, and the IRS website, say and have always said "UP TO" $600. You only get $600 if you had that much tax liability.

And no, the money won't be taxable next year.

travelguruette
up to 600 not a guaranteed 600. It depends on your taxes.

i thought the same thing i got 300 for me and then 300 fro each of my kids. i was wondering the same thing. my sister got 600 just for herself she has no children but some of her friends with no children got 300. i dont get it. sorry i know that wasnt any help
