I made $17,272.14, and they withheld $1,953.32 on taxes. I am a unmarried Tennessee resident, filing alone. Approximately how much can I expect to get on my tax return? Additional Details I claimed a 0, and I work for a school system, so I requested the max be taken out. All of my taxes are deducted through payroll. 17k is gross income. Tennessee has no state tax, and you can file your standard deductions. so you should get some back. However you can find out much closer by going to www.irs.gov |

That's only 11% in taxes withheld from your income. I'm not sure what bracket you're in...but I'm figuring you might be owing a little bit. Are you a student? Over 21? If so, you might qualify for an EIC (earned income credit) which would then mean you'll break even or even get a little something back.
I'm sure you hate taxes as much as we all do..but at first glance..it seems like you didn't pay enough
