How much will it cost me to hire someone to do my taxes?
I would lke to get my taxes done professionally because I worked in 2 states this year (I had no idea if that would complicate them). The past 2 years I had them done at work for free by a coworker, which is no longer an option. I have no idea how much it costs to get your taxes prepared professionally, and was hoping people would be able to give me approximate amounts.

I made under 35K in wages (in NY and WI) between 3 jobs. I will also be claiming/deducting interest paid on a student loan. Any assistace in the right direction would be great. Thanks.

If you go to a national chain prep co. you will pay too much in tax because many of their people are not trained well enough to ask beyond the information you stated. You may also pay too much in fees because their employees are well trained to sell you other products you may not want, such as fast refunds at an outrageous APR when you can get the full refund at no charge in 1-2 weeks.

For example, moving expenses are deductible; depending on which state you moved from and to may have a huge impact based on "other state tax credit" which prevents you from paying tax on the same income to 2 states.

I suggest that you stay away friom the national firms and look in the phone book for tax professionals with "EA" after their name. Enrolled Agents have demonstrated tax competence by exam or IRS experience, specialize in taxation (unlike CPAs), have the highest tax-specific continuing education requirement and typically charge less than CPAs or attorneys.
Also, except for CA & OR, anyone who prepares tax returns without letters after his/her name is subject to NO state or Federal oversight.

As far as fees, depending on your locale, anywhere from $150- 250 is reasonable.

I go to Jackson and Hewitt and they charge pretty well. I know they charge you on how many forms they have to fill out like if you worked to jobs and have a child and unemployment that would total 4 forms so they would charge so much and the less you have the cheaper and also they charge you on how fast you want your money to. You can get it done for as little as $69.00 or as much as $500.00 ( thats just the amount I know) Ask around and go to different tax places and see which one will fit what your looking to do and spend.

You can do this with Turbo tax or Tax Cut software so about $55.00 bucks

I think it will cost you between 150 to 300 for that (because of the school loan stuff). If its simple like just w-2s i think they only charge 69 dollars. But really...taxes is not rocket science. You get a 1040, read each number to see if it applies to you, if you think it does, you look it up in the instruction book. Its really simple if you just read the instructions, but if you dont read them, its sort of like buying a computer desk at best buy and then trying to put it together without reading the instructions. But really, its easy and there are plenty of online sites that will do your federal taxes for free and walk you through it step by step.

If you were my client, I would probably charge $100. With two state returns, Block or its competiors would charge more than that.

most of the major tax preperation co.s are pretty close to one another as far as fees. on average, even with w-2's from multiple states, there should still be a flat fee. usually around $150.00. personally?check out Jackson-Hewitt first. OhYeah. Be forewarned. IRS is allowing people to FILE on the 11th.
re: rapid refund. however they will not start sending out returns before the 13th. good luck
