You do taxes when you have a job. |

There is no base for age. If your 10 and receive a few hundred selling lemonade, Uncle Sam expects his cut. Sad isn't it. |

It's not about how old you are-- it's about how much money you make. If you have a job-- you probably have to file. |

when you get a job there will be taxes taken out of your pay stub. Now you do not need to file your taxes, but it gives you the opportunity to receive some of the money you have lost. And you can get a job when you are ruffly 14. |

It's not a matter of age. It's when you make enough money to be required to file. If you're a two year old child model but make over the minimum amount to have to file, you have to file (well, OK, your parents or guardian would file for you). |

Well, once you have a job that earns you a paycheck (meaning something other than babysitting or cleaning out your gramma's garage), unless you're single and exempt, Uncle Sam will automatically take his cut. I believe as long as your parents still list you as a dependent, your taxes are done under their paperwork, but once you are no longer a full time undergraduate student, you will have to file your own paperwork as your parents can no longer claim you as a dependent at that point. Get TurboTax, or go to the IRS site where you can get a link to free tax preparation sights, like H&R Block (if you make less than $60,000 a year, you can prepare and file for free online). |

When you have a job that gives you a W2 form. But in hind sight, as soon as you can no longer use the easy form - which really is easy - find a book keeper!!
No matter how much money you make - they will get you more money back than they charge you and keep your records straight from the beginning.
They will set up a system to help you learn how to manage your taxes when it is relatively easy instead of waiting until it is a nightmare of stacks of receipts, lost bills and large fines.
Good luck - perhaps by the time you really need to worry about taxes our government will have figured out how to simplify our tax process...I'm convinced it is made purposely difficult so the IRS can collect and keep more money because no one can figure out what the hell is going on!! |
