A while back, I prepared income taxes for a 9-year-old. With her mother present.
If you have income, you should file your taxes. If you didn't make over 5450, you are not REQUIRED, but it still is a good idea, for financial records you might need in the future. |

I was paying taxes as soon as I had my first job.
Note, I said PAY taxes.
A dependent can make up to $5450 without owing tax if all of their income is from a W-2. If it's self-employment income, they have a filing requirement at $400. If they have just unearned income, it starts at $900. |

It's got nothing to do with your age, and everything to do with your income.
If you had any taxes at all withheld from your paycheck during the year, you'll need to file a return in order to claim them back again if you're due a refund. This is true whether you're someone else's dependent or not. The only thing you need to watch is to make sure you check "yes" in the box where it asks if anyone else is claiming you as a dependent (assuming your parents are). |

There's no age limit. But if you are a dependent of your parents, you have to note on your return that you can be claimed by someone else. |

There are newborn infants who have to pay taxes. Of course the task of filing comes down to their parents until they're old enough to do it themselves, but the requirement to pay taxes is not related to your age. Your age might affect the amount of taxes that you have to pay, but not the requirement to pay if your income exceeds the filing requirement for your filing status. |

Age doesnt matter. It is how much is earned. |

Age is not the criteria. Taxable income is the criteria. |

as long you have a job and make enough to file, then it doesn't matter. |

Age has nothing to do with it. Income does. If you're making any substantial amount of money, then you should be filing your tax returns. If you've had money withheld, then you may end up getting some back. You may also end up owing some. If you haven't had any withheld, then you'll owe taxes for the year.
Filing tax returns does not automatically mean you'll be getting some kind of refund, so I wouldn't think of it as a privilege or something you "get" to do. |

I was paying taxes when I was 16 with my first job.... I then filed at the following tax time with a little help from my parents who explained how to do it.... So, I've been filing my taxes since I was 16. |

Each filing group has it own requirements: So it depends on how much you made and your marital status and if someone else claims you has a dependent. |
