How soon can i do my 2008 tax returns ?

Sharon T
You can mail in your 2008 return as soon as the forms are available. The first day to e-file 2007 returns was Jan. 10 and it will be within a day or two of that date for Jan. 2009.

CelticSu
Certainly not before the year is over. :-)

Employers, banks, etc will not be sending out the required statements until after the first of the year.

If you have good records at home, you can begin to pull your information together and even start filling out your return on January 1, 2009 ~ but you need the statements (W-2, etc) from employers, banks, etc. to include with your statement.

If you fill your forms out before receiving W-2s etc., it would probably be best to double-check your figures vs theirs.

Actually, most of us probably put OFF filling out our returns until last minute! LOL

Good luck!

As soon as you receive all of your tax papers, and the forms you need are available. That's usually sometime between mid January and early February.

As soon as you get your w-2 forms from your employer(s).

travelguruette
As soon as you have all the needed papers.

AB
You probably won't be able to start until February of next year. Employers and financial institutions are not required to mail out W2s and 1099s until January 31. As for the forms being available, they will probably not be published until November or December of this year. That doesn't mean that there won't end up being some changes again like there were last year.

As soon as your receive W-2, 1099s and other financial reports. Companies do not start sending them out till Jan.
