How to get the tax rebate on the recently announced economic stimulus package.?
Is there any place in the 1040A form that we need to mention.
Will it come as a separate check or along with the regular refund.

The proposed tax rebate is independent of your 2007 Federal Income Tax return. If you qualify for a rebate, the IRS will send it to you automatically. It will come as a separate check from your refund.

Under the terms of House bill, individual taxpayers would get up to $600 in rebates, working couples $1,200 and those with children an additional $300 per child under the agreement. Families who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates.

The amount of the proposed rebate depends on how much taxes you paid on your 2007 return. If you are single, you would be eligible to receive a rebate of up to $600 if you paid that much in Federal Income Tax. If you only paid $350 in taxes (less than the $600 rebate limit), you only get back $350.

If you had over $3000 in income, you would qualify for the $300 minimum.

Nothing has passed Congress yet, so everything is subject to change.

It will come automatically as long as the Senate passes the legislation.

There is no "rebate" yet so there is no way to answer any questions regarding it. It's still being debated in Congress and there's about an equal chance that it will never become law.

The "rebate" is nothing more than a budget-busting vote buy by Bush and Congress. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and the whole thing will die off quietly.

From the Federal deficit perspective it's about the same thing as getting a $5 a week pay raise but having your credit card debt doubled in return. A good deal if you don't have any debt, but a crushing burden if you're already saddled with too much debt.

Do nothing. It will come to you without any help.

The tax rebate has not been fully passed by congress....it may not even happen. But, if it does...the checks print automatically....
